Our Story
Diggalink’s story is built on more than 70 years of hands-on experience in excavation and contracting.
The Giltrap family’s involvement in the contracting industry began in 1953 when Robert Giltrap founded Giltrap Drainage. The company worked throughout New Zealand delivering specialised rural land development, agricultural drainage, and excavation projects. John Giltrap worked within the business, eventually becoming managing director and helping expand the company into new areas, including urban pipe and cable laying, trenching, rock sawing, and silt dredging using barges.
Years spent working directly with machinery in demanding New Zealand conditions gave John a deep understanding of what contractors need from their equipment. That practical experience ultimately led to the establishment of Diggalink in 2002, initially focused on buying, selling and servicing used excavators along with supplying a comprehensive range of spare parts.
As the business grew, Diggalink secured the exclusive New Zealand agency for Yuchai Excavators. For more than 20 years, Diggalink has worked closely with Yuchai, with feedback from New Zealand customers helping guide ongoing machine development and improvements to better suit our unique operating conditions.
Today, Diggalink continues to supply and support Yuchai Excavators, Yuchai Generators, Shantui Loaders and Bulldozers, along with a wide range of excavator attachments, parts and servicing.
With a nationwide customer base, the company remains focused on providing reliable equipment, practical solutions and strong after-sales support.

Yuchai EQuipment
Yuchai has been pioneering the excavator market, as the first Chinese company to produce and export excavators worldwide. Yuchai excavators have been imported, sold and supported throughout New Zealand since the early 2000s.
We work closely with Yuchai to develop and improve products specifically suited to New Zealand conditions. Yuchai recognises that New Zealand has a vast range of environments and conditions, from mining and forestry to farming or urban construction the Yuchai range can cater to it all.
Our suppliers are highly receptive to technical input from New Zealand operators, which has led to continuous improvements in performance, durability, and specification. The result is heavy-duty equipment designed for tough environments, whilst being priced fairly.
